Bruno Mars Joins a Great Tradition at Rock in Rio

5 Great Names in Festival History

Everyone knows that Bruno Mars is confirmed for Rock in Rio USA, right? The hitmaker will perform on May 16th, carrying on a great tradition of talented artists who have taken the stage over the last three decades. He’s certainly got the talent to take all of his influences from R&B, Soul, and Pop history and transform them into an undeniable concert.

But what is that tradition? We decided to make a short list of some other artists who have passed through the festival with this same DNA of Black Music in excellent Pop packaging. Everyone ends up having some relation to Bruno‘s music—if they are not a direct influence, at least they drink from the same source. Check it out:

Stevie Wonder
One of the greatest masters of soul, R&B, pop, jazz, and fun to ever live. He made history at two Rock in Rio concerts: 2011 (Rio de Janeiro) and 2012 (Lisbon).

What can you say about an artist who turned himself into a symbol? The “Purple Rain” songwriter and multi-instrumentalist made the crowd dance at Rock in Rio in 1991 (Rio de Janeiro).

Arguably the most talented artist in the music industry today, Queen Bey makes every performance beautiful, inclusive, and unique with her powerful voice and dancing abilities.  The R&B muse thrilled audiences at Rock in Rio 2013, which was held in Rio de Janeiro.

Alicia Keys
A beautiful voice and sophisticated musical tastes define our next artist.  Alicia Keys has earned dozens of awards and much success throughout the last 13+ years of her career. Performances at Rock in Rio in 2004 (Lisbon) and 2013 (Rio de Janeiro) make her one of the few artists who have played our festival in two different decades.

In the musical cauldron of this daring singer-songwriter, R&B swirls around with Reggae, Hip Hop and even Rock and Roll. Rock in Rio was proud to host her in two concerts: 2010 (Madrid) and 2011 (Rio de Janeiro).

Rock in Rio USA is coming. In addition to Bruno, several names have already confirmed their presence, including Metallica, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, John Legend, No Doubt, Joss Stone, Rise Against, Coheed & Cambria, Deftones and Sepultura.
