Dancing in the Street at Rock in Rio

Open up the circle and show ‘em what you’ve got. Hip-hop, breakdance, popping and locking, and other street styles make their moves in Lisbon this year.

Rock in Rio truly is a comprehensive exploration of all the microcosms in the universe of art and entertainment. One unforgettable experience after another fills entire days on end at the City of Rock, and that includes everything on offer at the Street Dance stage.

It’s been decades since street dance burst onto the scene, eventually making its way into pop culture, now seen on stages throughout the world, including our own. And we find this genre of dance so amazing that we decided to focus on it for its own sake, debuting a separate stage for dance only in Portugal’s capital in 2012. Its success led to a Brazilian encore the following year. And now Rock in Rio celebrates ten years in Portugal with this dance stage once again.

A performance area inspired by the streets of New York sets the stage for this urban art and its power. Many seasoned dance groups will pass though the City of Rock, and performances are not restricted to the stage—they’ll also happen in the middle of the crowd and wherever else the performers’ feet take them. This means everyone will be up dancing together, feeling the rhythms from the music, the city, the people, and the experience.

All this and so much more are in the works for your enjoyment at Rock in Rio USA. Feel the energy of Street Dance and start working on your own moves.

And if you just can’t wait until May of 2015, don’t forget: the celebration in Lisbon begins on May 25th this year. The Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams, Jessie J, Lorde, Queens of the Stone Age, Justin Timberlake, Arcade Fire, and 100+ other artists will be ready and waiting for you.
