If we want to tell the histories of some of the world’s greatest music artists, we definitely need to dedicate at least a few lines to Rock in Rio. The World’s Biggest Music Festival was the place for some special moments in many groups’ careers.
Here’s one good example. Back in 1991, the temple to Brazilian soccer hosted a record-breaking event, and it wasn’t in sports. For nine days the Maracanã stadium became a mecca for music, as it housed the second Rock in Rio. The A-ha performance this time around was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest paying audience at a concert, with 198,000 people in attendance. On their official website, the Norwegian band counts this as one of the greatest moments of more than three decades performing together.
In the early 90’s, the pop trio was a huge success in Brazil and the Brazilian audience was… Well, you might have heard a little bit about Brazilian fans, especially those who show up to Rock in Rio. And in honor of this tradition, the crowd didn’t let them down. Some scenes from that special night showed up on A-ha’s video for “Early Morning,” a single they released the same year of this historical performance.
Our American appearance scheduled for 2015 marks a new step in Rock in Rio’s history. And while it’s already full of unique moments, we’re sure Las Vegas will generate many more. We’ll see you there!
