Rock in Rio USA has announced that John Legend will perform on the festival’s Main Stage on May 16 in place of Sam Smith, who has cancelled due to a medical condition. Mayer Hawthorne has been added to the Mercedes-Benz Evolution Stage to complete the May 16 lineup (check out the schedule).

Nine-time GRAMMY Award-winner John Legend’s most recent album Love in the Future was released in September 2013 and features the hit single “All of Me,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100. Legend most recently won both a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for “Glory,” his collaboration with Common for the film Selma.

Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and DJ Mayer Hawthorne has won over fans and critics with his neo-soul sound, making national appearances on programs such as The David Letterman Show and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He released his third studio album, Where Does This Door Go, in 2013.
